Find Your Favorite Joint Style

Joints come in several styles, depending on your preference:

  • Pinner: Small, thin joint for personal use
  • Blunt: A joint rolled in tobacco leaf
  • Cone: A joint rolled into a cone shape
  • Novelty: Some novelty styles have unique shapes or options

How Much Cannabis Is In A Joint?

The amount of cannabis in a joint can vary depending on how much you want, including how much you intend to partake in and how many people might be sharing the experience. Typical ranges are:

  • Pinner: 0.25 grams or less
  • Standard: 0.5-0.75 grams
  • King: 1-1.5 grams

The size of your rolling paper will determine how much cannabis you can fit into the joint. If you intend to create a king-size joint, you’ll need rolling papers to match.

Your Step-by-Step Guide to Rolling a Joint

Ready to get started?

Step 1: Grind It Fine for an Even Burn

You want a uniform consistency that smokes consistently throughout the entire joint. Using a grinder, rather than simply breaking up the flower, can create that consistent experience.

Step 2: Add Your Flower and Shape the Roll

Lay out your rolling paper and add cannabis evenly along the center of the paper, working toward the outside. Begin from the crutch and move outward. Hold the paper in a curved shape with the adhesive edge facing up, allowing for easy rolling of the joint. Start with a small amount and work up so that you do not overfill the paper.

Step 3: Roll It Tight (But Not Too Tight)

Pinch the rolling paper and shape it around the bud. Then, roll and tuck the paper around the crutch. You may want to use a small amount of saliva to help hold it down.

Step 4: Seal It and Twist the Tip

Lick or dampen the adhesive strip on the rolling paper and stick it to the side to create a seal. You may also want to twist the ends to help keep everything contained.

Step 5: Light It Evenly

Hold your joint at an angle and rotate it away from your body while holding it in the flame. This process, known as “toasting” the tip, helps light it evenly. If one side is burning faster than the other, known as canoeing, carefully apply heat to the slower-burning side to create a more even burn.
