Strain Spotlight: Zookies

Some days you want to be just high enough to focus on your to do list or you need a little extra kick to get through the afternoon slump. If that’s the case, consider Zookies. It’s a hybrid strain made by crossing Animal Cookies and GG#4 (also known as Original Glue). Originally bred by Alien Labs, we carry the strain as grown by Ember Valley. Its flavor profile calls back to its predecessors. You have Animal Cookies’ signature sweet and nutty with hints of chocolate, coffee, pepper while the sour diesel flavor comes from GG#4. Consume this when you want the best of both worlds in one strain: a relaxing high that won’t make you drowsy and a focused burst of energy without feeling too wired.

What kind of high should I expect?

As a well-balanced hybrid strain, Zookie combines both a traditional head high (found in sativas) and body high (found in indicas).  It’s an energetic buzz that’s still calming and relaxing. You won’t get couch lock — you’ll be able to function while experiencing a deep high.

What are the terpenes and what are they good for?

Caryophyllene, the dominant terpene in this strain that’s commonly found in black pepper, is responsible for Zookie’s funky taste and spiciness. Caryophyllene is also the only terpene to act like a cannabinoid by activating CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system and providing therapeutic effects such as reducing inflammation and stress relief. Studies have also shown potential for treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome with caryophyllene in cannabis.

Limonene is the next strongest terpene in this strain adding citrusy notes along with antifungal, antibacterial, and stress relieving properties. Studies have also shown limonene to be beneficial in fighting certain types of cancers and boosting the immune system, though it’s important to note that these studies were not conducted directly with cannabis, and with high doses of limonene not found in cannabis.

So what should I use this strain for?

Consume Zookies during the day when you want to feel creative and productive. The strain has an average amount of THC in it, but it packs a powerful punch in its body high similar to its GG#4 parent. Reviewers mentioned feeling inspired to do chores, write, or play video games while enjoying the strain.

What do reviewers love about it?

Reviewers love experiencing Zookies’ strong body high without having to worry about feeling heavy or sedated. Many also felt uplifted, happy, and relaxed with this strain.

What are the downsides?

Most reviewers adore this strain, but if you are sensitive to the effects of sativa, there’s a chance that Zookies will make you feel wired rather than energized.
